Hippie & Chick’s Plumeria Tips
#1 way to kill a plumeria is to overwater it!
(Don’t water a cutting until you have leaves)
Soil for rooting and
planting:
⅓ nice
potting soil
⅓ sand
⅓ Perlite or
pumice
1 pinch bone meal
(You also can also use prepackaged cactus mix)
This is an easy way to root a plumeria cutting.
1.
For the highest rate of success dip the stick in water and then
rooting hormone.
2.
Put the stick in (3-4 inches deep) in a clear plastic bag(sandwich
size is OK) with slightly damp Rooting Soil.
3.
Try to get all the air out of the bag and seal the top off with
electrical tape, wrapping tightly.
4.
Place in a warm area (bottom heat encourages root growth), but not
necessarily in direct sunlight. Do not water.
5.
Once it roots (usually 3 to 6 weeks), remove it from the bag and pot
it 3-4 inches deep, in the same type of soil mix. At first, you may need to use
rocks or a stick to keep it from falling over.
6.
Once it has 2 or 3 leaves,1 to 2 inches long, move it to a sunny
spot and water it until the water comes out the bottom of the pot.
7.
Water again when the soil is pretty much dry (usually about once a
week in the summer). You can spray the leaves in between, as well.
Disclaimer: These are some of the
things that have worked for us. We are trying some new things this year!
Everyone has their own tips and tricks. There a multitude of resources on the
internet.
Thanks,
Hippie & Chick
